Wednesdays at Wakefield is only 12-days away!

Greetings Friends, Family, and Fellow Racers!

15th Annual Wednesdays at Wakefield starts June 21st…
Yup! That’s a Wednesday!

Starting on Wednesday, June 21st, 2017 @ 5 pm, Potomac Velo Club’s race director Kyle Bondo will feature four (4) Wednesdays-in-a-row worth of Beginner, Sport, Expert, Junior, and Master level categories at Wakefield Park in Annandale, Virginia.

Registration Closes Soon!
You can still — for a limited time — pre-register for the entire Wednesdays at Wakefield MTB Series by visiting our online registration site. If you pre-register for the entire series before the deadline, PVC will give you four race entries for the price of three! That is a $20 savings! But your time is running out! Online Registration Closes* for good on Tuesday, Jun 20, 2017, at 11:59 PM ET!

* Race Day Registration will be available.

The Bike Lane is the Title Sponsor for WAW
The Bike Lane (TBL) has been the title sponsor of the Wednesdays at Wakefield MTB Series for over a decade and Wednesdays at Wakefield (WAW) MTB Series could not take place without them. The Bike Lane will be there each race providing quality race prizes, free on-location bike repair, and a cadre of volunteers from their own racing team. Give them a big “Thank You” when you see them and get your bike tuned up before the race at one of their two locations!

The Course is Ready!
WAW Course Designer, Pete Daily, and MORE Wakefield Trail Boss, Tom Howe, have been keeping the trail nice and ready for you. We have markings up for those looking to pre-ride the course. Just follow the black arrows in the yellow squares. If you are unfamiliar with the course, get the map here.

Where is the Start?
The Start, Registration and Finish areas will be down the gravel road beside the power station under the power lines (where the start has traditionally been). Please follow the parking attendant’s instructions and park alongside the gravel road or along the Rec-Center entrance road (where designated) and DO NOT drive down the gravel hill.

Trails for Youth Raffle
Our friends over at Trails for Youth (TFO) will return to Wakefield to continue to direct the Juniors racing part of Wednesdays at Wakefield starting at 5:30 PM. Please join them in raising money for youth cycling programs by participating in their TFO Raffle that will give a lucky winner a new bike rack!

We need Volunteers!
We need your help to be successful. In order to offer this fun event to our local racing community for such a low price, we depend on volunteers to make it happen. Currently, we need volunteers — for each of the 4 race days — to fill the following positions:

  • Parking Assistants – Time slots 4:15-4:45, 4:45-5:45,
  • Registration Area Set-Up – 4:00 to 4:45
  • Racer Registration Table Help – Time slots 4:45-5:45, 5:45-6:45
  • Registration Data Entry Helper – Time slot, 5:45-7:00
  • Course Marshall – Time slots   5:30-6:00 (need 1),   6:00-7:00 (need 5), 7:00-8:00 (need 5)
  • Manual Scoring Number Caller – Time slots  6:00-7:00 (need 3), 7:00-8:00 (need 3)
  • Manual Scoring Number Writer – Time slots  6:00-7:00 (need 3), 7:00-8:00 (need 3)

BONUS: As a thank you for volunteering, every 2 hours worked earns a free race for the person you designate. And YES! If your family and friends help, their time will help earn races for you too! Please contact Jim (jcarlsonida@yahoo.com) and/or Kyle (leafbreeze@gmail.com) to volunteer for these jobs or to ask any questions.

The race within the race — WAW Series Champion!
Every year, we award Series points in each category going 13 places deep. Racers can earn points during each of the four Wednesdays (June 21, June 28, July 5, and July 12 ) with a Series Champion (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place) for that category awarded at the end of the final race on July 12th! Every year there are racers who never place in the top 3, but because they raced and earned points in all four races, they gained enough points to become the Series Champion in their category. Could that be you this year?

We look forward to having another awesome year of racing at Wakefield, and we hope you can get off work and come join us for some afternoon fun! Besides, think of all the traffic you’ll get to miss!

I hope to see you all at this year’s very special 15th Anniversary Wednesdays at Wakefield MTB Series starting on June 21st, 2017!

Cheers,
Kyle
