PARKING is a premium at Wakefield. If you want to park close to the trail to registration, you need to arrive early (before 5:00PM), park nose-in, and always follow the directions provided by the volunteer parking attendants. There will be overflow parking allowed on the out-bound lane BEFORE the Audrey Moore RECenter. You are asked NOT to park in the Audrey Moore RECenter Parking Lot, since those parking spots are for RECenter, Skate Park, and Tennis Court patrons only.
Power Station Road Access Notice
Please remember to park nose-first along the gravel road PAST the Audrey Moore RECenter Parking Lot, so that we can fit as many cars as possible along the side of the road. Also be aware that Dominion Power often needs immediate access to the Power Station (along with the PVC Race Direction Team), so please do not block any access to the road, and allow plenty of room for SUVs and utility trucks to get by.
This year’s on-site registration is almost located in the dead-center of Wakefield Park (located to the NORTH of the RECenter) directly across from the Power Station (electrical infrastructure facility, surrounded by a chain-link fence). Once you’ve parked somewhere along the the gravel road parking area, travel WEST (down the hill from the parking area and behind the tennis courts). There are several trails that will take you from the parking area directly to the registration tent. The fastest way will be to follow the signs, other riders, or listen for the music from the parking areas, and walk approximately 200-yards down the trail directly behind the tennis courts (just across from the pedestrian bridge, but travelling away from the I-495 side of the park). However, you could also follow the gravel road NORTH, turn left at the Power Station, follow it to the WEST going down a step hill, and into the open field. Either way will get you there!
Finding JUNIORS Registration
Registration for JUNIORS is located in the same location as the regular race registration, but completed at the Trails for Youth tent.
The START LINE for the 5:30PM JUNIORS race is along the Cross-County Trail (CCT) heading NORTH. The JUNIORS groups are guided by Trails for Youth volunteers. Note that the JUNIOR race has both a modified start and finish to remove some of the venue’s more difficult features.
The START LINE for all 6:00PM and 6:55PM races is along the Cross-County Trail (CCT) heading SOUTH, just past the 4×4 gate. To get to the 6:00PM and 6:55PM START LINE, please muster just beyond registration and follow the PVC Race Director’s instructions for staging and starting.
Finish Line/Spectator Area
The FINISH LINE for all races is located between registration and the start line roughly 50-yards NORTH of the START (across the mid-distance point of the Power Station’s WEST fence). You will see the Timing Tent and boundary tape near the FINISH LINE area. Please remain off the course to avoid any collisions with on-coming mountain bikes. If you have to travel along the course, use the extreme edges along the snow fence.
Avoid the Timing Tent — Seriously!
Please stay away from the Timing Tent at all times and do not block the vision of timers while they are working the course. Timing is a difficult task and requires concentration if we are to provide accurate results for all racers. Results for each race will be posted at the Registration tent between 15-20 minutes after the race has concluded.
AWARDS for each event occurs approximately 30-45 minutes after the first riders have finished. Because darkness sets in around 9:00PM, all riders may not be off the course by the time AWARDS begins. The receive an award, please muster near Registration around the following times:
- 5:30PM Race – Awards Podium (Medals) @ 6:00PM-6:15PM
- 6:00PM Race – Awards Podium (Prizes) @ 7:15PM-7:30PM
